Samantha Phippen Morgan,
in cargo pants, hiking boots,
a camo shirt. A serviceman
in the elevator says Cute
boy. A Lady at the CVS says
With those eyes you’ll break
the girls’ hearts. Drycleaner
behind the counter asks
Boy or girl? unsure what
to think: boy pants but
such beautiful eyelashes.
Boy or girl? I echo. Instead
of answering you bang and bang
your head against the counter.
On my lap before bed you ask
Are my eyelashes beautiful?
They are, they are, I say.
Well then, you answer,
I’m going to need to cut them off.
